The 94 Elements Project - 2 minute trailer

94 Elements is a new web-based global filmmaking project, exploring our lives through the lens of the elements. 
There are 94 naturally occurring elements, from Hydrogen to Plutonium. Together they make up everything in the world. The stories of the elements are intimately connected to the stories of our own lives.
Everything we use and create is made from them. Our own bodies are mostly made from just 6 of the elements.
They affect our lives in countless ways, and their stories reveal our relationship with our resources and the patterns of our economies.
The project is creating a collection of unique human stories by award-winning filmmakers and the best emerging filmmaking talent about the endless ways the elements touch our daily lives.
Each filmmaker will create an authored 4-7 minute film around a way we extract or use one element. The films are surprising and moving human stories involving the elements – this is not about science, but about our human relationships with our natural resources.

Ogni cosa è collegata: Gabriella Greison a Sant'Antioco il 24 giugno (e non è un caso)

Sabato 24 giugno  Gabriella Greison sarà a Sant'Antioco  (aula consiliare, con inizio alle 19:00) dove avrò il piacere e l'onore di presentarla al pubblico.  Sarà un piacere perché (come sapete bene se seguite questo blog) adoro quando la fisica (e la scienza in generale) sale sul palcoscenico.  Sarà un onore perché il percorso professionale di Gabriella Greison è davvero straordinario e pieno di successi: nessuna o nessuno prima di lei ha mai portato la fisica (e la scienza) al grande pubblico (in Italia e non solo) in questo modo. Sinceramente, dopo averla vista sul palco del Cagliari FestivalScienza 2018 , questo successo non mi stupisce per niente: per me era già chiaro come il sole che non sarebbe stata una breve avventura.  Infatti Gabriella Greison ha proseguito a scrivere e portare in scena opere, a scrivere e pubblicare libri e tanto altro. La tavoletta di Dispilio. Quel testo del 5260 a.C. che attende di essere decifrato

Una tavoletta di legno con alcune incisioni tuttora incomprensibili. Un mistero scientifico ancora tutto da scoprire: è la Tavoletta di Dispilio, portata alla luce dall'archeologo George Hourmouziadis in Grecia nel 1993. La datazione al carbonio-14 la colloca nel 5260 a.C. quindi il reperto sarebbe molto più antico rispetto ai primi testi di epoca sumera e 4.000 anni più vecchio rispetto ai tipi di scrittura cretese-micenea (Lineare B) . Il ritrovamento avvenne all'interno di un sito archeologico situato nei pressi del villaggio di Dispilio sul lago Kastoria (Prefettura di Kastoria) che sembra essere stato occupato dal Neolitico medio (5600 a.C.) al neolitico finale (3000 a.C.). La tavoletta di Dispilio fa parte dei 10 codici e testi non ancora decifrati .

Solar system genealogy revealed by extinct short-lived radionuclides in meteorites. Astronomy & Astrophysics, Volume 545, September 2012.

The stellar environment of the Solar System at its birth is not yet fully known , as it has accomplished 20 revolutions around the galactic centre since its formation 4.5 billion years ago.  Matthieu Gounelle (Laboratoire de Minéralogie et Cosmochimie du Muséum National d'Histoire naturelle/CNRS) and Georges Meynet (Observatoire de Genève) established the Solar System genealogy thanx to a radioactive element, 26Al, which was present in the nascent Solar System.  Their results are published this week in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics. The authors of this paper show that the parent massive star (name proposed: Coatlicue, from the Sun's mother in the Aztec cosmogony) and which is roughly 30 times more massive than our Sun, they was born with roughly 2000 stars.
