INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL

Island2IslandArt 2021 Exhibition

LIMINAL TIES UNVEILED

Applications to Island2IslandArt 2021 can be submitted from the 15th February 2021 to the 30th April 2021, midnight (BST).

The second edition of Island2IslandArt will take place in an ever-changing cultural and artistic environment highly affected by the 2020 pandemic.
In a spirit of optimism and anticipation for a return to normality and face-to-face encounters, we are calling all artists, British and international, for a selection of artworks to be displayed in our planned exhibitions taking place in the summer in Coventry, and in London in autumn. A hybrid format (physical-virtual) is planned if restrictions are still in place.
The original aim of our event, to deepen the cultural awareness of Sardinian art and culture, continues to be fundamental to our brief, particularly in this post-brexit times. With our new exhibitions, we are extending the discourse of remoteness and bridging gaps to include all islands in the world.
The objective is to open up a space for artistic connections in celebration of each other's heritage, cultural diversity and human connections.
Sardinia is one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the most geologically ancient bodies of land in Europe. Its strategic position fostered a constant influx of populations and exchange of cultural traditions which are still present in contemporary life and found to be similar in other islands in the world.
Artists of any discipline are challenged to explore such connections and are invited to submit their proposals inspired by these cultural traditions with a direct or indirect relation amongst collective or individual experiences.
Themes might include: communalities and contrasts of culture and heritage; immigration/emigration; urbanism versus rural; environmental issues; isolation and ways of networking.
A jury panel will select the submissions which best reflect the spirit of the brief.
The selection will culminate in a group exhibition of up to 50 shortlisted artworks to take place in two separate locations: Coventry, UK City of Culture 2021, and London.
The event might move to virtual mode should the Covid19 situation carry onto September.
