Cagliari, February 1, 2021 - Press release
The appointment with the great cinema that looks and talks about linguistic minorities returns to Cagliari.
Online the new call for entries to the international film competition, intended exclusively for productions in minority languages.
A profound cultural commitment that of the BFF and its three artistic directors, Antonello Zanda, Tore Cubeddu and Paolo Carboni, also attested over the years by the international and national awards received for past editions: the patronage of the Presidency of the European Union and the 'UNESCO, of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Chamber and Senate, of the Council of Europe, of ANCI and of Elen (European Language Equality Network).
Great participation is expected again this year. Over the years, the numbers have grown exponentially and only in the last edition 113 films have been entered, among which, the selection commission, has chosen 71 works representing 33 minority languages, making the festival a real cinema marathon that included screenings from afternoon to evening.
In addition to the screening of the works in competition, there will be collateral events such as masterclasses, meetings with experts from the cinema sector and linguistic minorities, concerts and shows, keeping in mind the identity of a festival that is always attentive to the needs of the general public.
As always, numerous prizes are expected, not only in cash, thanks to the collaboration of the many partners of the festival. The Italiymbas Award - which as always will stop in Martignano, Udine, Catania, Ostana and some towns on the island - and the AAMOD, FEDIC and FICC awards, University of Cagliari, Ostana Film School and Film Club Diaries are reconfirmed.
The Festival again this year will be divided into two main sections: the Official section and the collateral sections. The official section will host films spoken in minority languages with a percentage of more than 50%.
The films will be evaluated and judged by the BABEL JURY which will award the prizes for best feature film (documentary or fiction longer than 45 minutes), best short fiction film (no longer than 45 minutes), best short documentary (no longer than 45 minutes). of duration).
Films whose presence is less than 50% also participate in the competition phase of the collateral sections, entrusted to various juries.
In the Babel 2021 program there will also be the winning work of the Kentzeboghes competition for film projects in Sardinian languages and dialects, promoted by the Babel Cultural Association, in collaboration with the Humanitarian Society - Cineteca Sarda di Cagliari, Ejatv, Areavisuale Film and the Boxis Association .
