I dati provenienti dal Voyager 1 indicano che la sonda, lanciata nel 1977, sta attraversando una regione dello spazio nella quale l'intensità delle particelle cariche, esterne al nostro sistema solare, è notevolmente più alta. Il Voyager sarà il primo oggetto costruito dall'uomo e essere entrato nello spazio interstellare: ora si sta avvicinando alla frontiera del sistema solare.
